How to Drink Like a Millionaire on a Beer Budget – TWO!!

Tuesday July 22, 2008, 6:00PM (Doors at 5:30) - Sheraton at Station Square - $50

Due to its popularity, we are repeating this entertaining and informative seminar, but with ALL NEW WINES TO TRY.

Let’s face it, anyone can find a great wine if your budget is $200 per bottle. But how do we find all of those wonderful wines that are out there for those of us that are on a budget? What are those “Great Buys” that Pittsburgh restaurant owners, wholesale wine folks and industry insiders have encountered over the years?

We called Sommeliers, Restaurant Owners, Chefs, and got their picks, wonderful wines at prices that we all can afford.

Format is an informal classroom setting with Pete Hanowich leading the tasting and discussions. Dress is Casual.

We are collecting the favorites of many of those “in the know” wine insiders and will have them for you to try. Let us share wines that are a bargain on your budget but are priceless on your palate

French Wines Made Easy (to Understand)

August 19, 2008 at the Sheraton at Station Square. Doors open at 5:30 and we start at 6:00. $50 (Please check which meeting room when you arrive)

Join us as Pete guides an exploration of selections of “interesting French wines you or your friends may not be aware of”.

Everyone knows the expensive French reds and whites that the experts serve when they entertain. But what kind of unique French wines will you serve? Try some new, noteworthy wines that will work for your weekend parties.

Many of us have had a Sancerre from France’s Loire Valley, a nice light white wine. But almost no one knows that there is a Red Sancerre. We’ll try to get them both. Or 2 pleasant French whites, Pouilly Fuissé and Pouilly Fumé. What’s the difference? Want a clue? One is French Chardonnay! We’ll try them all - all of the selections are fun and inexpensive. We’ll take the Mystery out of French Wines.

Format is an informal classroom setting with Pete Hanowich leading the tasting and discussions. Dress is Casual.

Understanding Wines – We put the Fun in Fundamentals

September 16, 2008 at the Sheraton at Station Square. Doors open at 5:30 and we start at 6:00. $50 (Please check which meeting room when you arrive)

With this seminar Pete will be selecting from a wide range of wines with an emphasis on rooting out and exploring the fundamentals of wine selecting and tasting.

Been delving into wines for a while and want to learn more? Some folks have made wine talk a pretentious and intimidating topic. But shouldn’t we each enjoy wines by developing our own individual taste preferences? We’ll discuss those basics that you knew and maybe forgot, those topics that give you a framework to develop taste preferences.

We’ll discuss things like where wine came from and where wine is going as well as how wine is made and New World Wine vs. Old World Wine. How do we experience wines from a sensory perspective. How we taste vs. how the Sommeliers taste. We’ll talk fundamentals, and we’ll emphasize the fun.

Format is an informal classroom setting with Pete Hanowich leading the tasting and discussions. Dress is Casual.

Cheese and baguettes included.
